„Deam Fortitudnis” – 80x120cm, oil/acrylic

The title „Deam Fortitudinis” in Latin means Goddess of Strength, Defense, Fighting. A woman, even if she is surrounded by evil that tries to destroy her, always finds the power and strength to defend her love and happiness.

This is how I presented it in the painting, although the poet Wiesław Fałkowski, whom I invited to share his talent, to write a poem inspired by this painting, saw this topic in a completely different light. I invite you to watch and read, and to discuss the ambiguity of the symbols contained in the painting and the poem.
„When the white butterflies fall”
in one moment
motionless butterflies
from the rim of the cup
the wingless will fall
lazy angels
they will not pray
they can not
mute as if made of wood
sword and book for nothing
words won’t say
and they will die
hope in the trenches will die
the blood will evaporate
the suns will go out
silence pours poppy seeds into the eyes
blue and gold last madonna
will not hide behind the throne
will remain uncovered
will feed the human pup
drinks
save?
the baby will not fall asleep
forget the smell of milk
bright smile on his face
a bitter tear will wash away
demons will become holy
stealing evenly from the ground
sinless and sinners corpse
will cease to apply
universal ban on tearing bodies apart
the laurel will fall off
will fall from laurel wreaths
like trees
autumn leaves
thorns will remain in the crown
they will severely hurt minds and souls
hearts will stop
steel will rust

w jednej chwili
nieruchome motyle
znad krawędzi pucharu
bezskrzydłe upadną
leniwi aniołowie
modlić się nie będą
nie potrafią
niemi jakby z drewna
na nic miecz i księga
słowa nie powiedzą
i sczezną
nadzieja w okopach umrze
krew wyparuje
słońca zgasną
cisza w oczy makiem sypnie
błękitno-złota ostatnia madonna
nie schowa się za tronem
pozostanie odkryta
ludzkie szczenię nakarmi
napoi
ocali?
dziecko nie zaśnie
mleka zapach zapomni
z twarzy jasny uśmiech
gorzka łza zmyje
demony staną się święte
z ziemi kradnąc po równo
bezgrzesznych i grzeszników truchło
przestanie obowiązywać
powszechny zakaz rozszarpywania ciał
osypie się wawrzyn
opadną z laurowych wieńców
jak z drzew
jesienne liście
w koronie same pozostaną ciernie
będą dotkliwie ranić umysły i dusze
zatrzymają się serca
zardzewieje stal
